Reminder About Outside Animals Within Town Limits

1/17/2023

During the past few weeks, a number of residents have expressed concerns about the constant barking of dogs in town and about stray and/or aggressive animals wandering about. As a reminder, the Town of Richey has several long-standing ordinances in place covering both animals and public nuisances at large. Out of respect for your neighbors and for the Town's residents more broadly, please make every effort to keep your outside pets as quiet as possible and within the confines of your yard.

8.02.010 Unlawful to Let Animals Run at Large. It shall be unlawful for the owner or any person in control of, or in charge of any horses, cattle, swine, sheep, goats or other animals to allow the same to run at large in any of the streets, alleys, or other public places within the town limits of the Town of Richey, and any person violating the provisions of this ordinance shall be subject to a fine.

8.14 Dog Ordinance - Town of Richey. Any dog . . . within the corporate limits of the Town is a public nuisance if (among other things), A. it frequently frightens, annoys, barks, or chases any person or vehicle; D. it damages any property not the property of the owner; E. it disturbs the community by loud barking or howling and frequent yelping; F. it runs at large. "Running at large" is defined in this ordinance as any dog, which is not under the verbal or physical control of its owner or the owner's representative while off the property of its owner. Any owner of a dog found in violation of this section shall be fined.

9.02.010 Unlawful to Disturb the Peace - Penalty. Anyone who allows their pet/pets to disturb the peace with constant uproar or barking or outcries from dogs and cats is guilty of a misdemeanor . . . punishable by a fine.
